The mandatory appeal process
You must file a mandatory prior administrative appeal, known as a Rapo, before you can take your case to a judge.[1]
If your Rapo is rejected, you must file your contentious appeal against the rejection decision of the Rapo. You must not file it against the original decision.[2]
Informal and hierarchical appeals
You can choose to make an informal appeal. You must address this appeal directly to the person who made the decision you want to contest.[3]
You can also choose to make a hierarchical appeal. You must address this appeal to the hierarchical superior of the person who made the decision.[4]
Deadlines for your appeals
The deadline to submit an informal appeal depends on where you live. You must submit it within two months if you live in metropolitan France. You must submit it within three months if you live overseas. You must submit it within four months if you live abroad.[5][6][7]
The deadline to submit a hierarchical appeal also depends on your location. You must submit it within two months if you live in metropolitan France. You must submit it within three months if you live overseas. You must submit it within four months if you live abroad.[8][9][10]
